Dear Yuletide Writer,
First off, I’m so excited to have you writing for me! I can’t wait to see what you come up with. I know you’re probably only matched with me on one fandom, but I’m glad to know that it’s something that we both enjoy. I figured that in addition to the prompts, you’d appreciate hearing about some of the more general likes/dislikes I have:
Likes: AUs (except high school AUs, which I’m not a huge fan of), explicit sex between consensual partners (kink optional; I especially love bondage, forced orgasm, delayed orgasm, waxplay), genderbending, crossovers with universes that make sense (ex DC/Marvel = yes but NCIS/Sailor Moon = no). I love focus on relationships (het, slash, femmslash), slice of life, action adventure, kid!fic, fluff, happy endings, hurt/comfort, anything involving food, friendship, women being incredible…if I think of anything else, I’ll be sure to add it.
Dislikes: Explicit non-con is an absolute no-go, and I generally prefer for it not to happen at all; vague references are alright, but again I’m not crazy about it. I don’t really have a large number kink squicks – but no scat/bloodplay/knifeplay/watersports please. No excessive violence is preferred, no incest (unless it is within mythological canon, in which case everyone is usually sleeping with everyone else anyways). Main character death, second person POV, suicide, alcohol/drug abuse. Excessive crack.
Fandom One: Young Wizards
Optional Details: There’s no reason not to love the Young Wizards series – after all, it’s filled with magic, with good and evil, with death and life and takes place on the scale of the cosmos…and in your backyard. I especially love how it examines relationships between the characters, and the fluidity of the characters. In particular, I’m fond of stories that explore sexual relationships between the characters, in addition to the gender of the characters, since we don’t get as much of that in the stories. After all, what does it mean for Dairine long-term, to be interested in an alien prince? I’ve also explored the option of Carmela being pansexual before, something that has since become my personal headcanon. What about Rirhait? What is their concept of gender, of sexuality? Then there’s Tom and Carl, the ever-present Seniors with an unspoken, if clear, bond, (I personally ship them, but I don’t mind if you don’t – I just love hearing more about them!) and Nita and Kit with their burgeoning relationship. Not to mention what it means to love and be loved as one of the Powers that Be…
If at all possible, dear writer, that’s what I’d like to see explored within your fic: explore the sexuality of the characters of Young Wizards. Please and thank you!
Fandom Two: Norse Mythology
Characters: Sigyn, Loki, Idunn, Frigg
Optional Details: As in most mythologies/histories, women are kind of given the short end of the stick in the Norse canon as well. In particular, I find myself attracted to finding out more about them – Sigyn married a Trickster God and provided aid during his punishment. Idunn grows the apples that keep the Gods and Goddess alive. Frigg is the Queen of all Asgard. Yet most of who they are, their desires, their wants, their histories – it’s all shrouded in mystery. So tell me their story, alone or together, retelling the myths to include their perspective or by telling a completely new story at which they are the core.
Also, however, I have always had a soft spot for Tricksters. From Anansi to the Coyote, their quirks and foibles and their willingness to always play a trick have always formed the core of some of the most fun myths. So it is with Loki; I can’t imagine many could convince the mighty Thor or dress as a woman so as to regain Mjölnir. Yet they make me curious, too – what drove him to his tricks? What are his desires? He is as much a stranger to Asgard as he is to the Jötunn, at times. Why?
Essentially, in either case I’d love if you could expand on the myths, or retell them, or otherwise create new histories or stories (even in a modern day would be fabulously fun!) in which we find out more about these characters!
Fandom: The Incredibles
Optional Details: As with the above fandoms (you may have noticed a trend by now) my fascination with the female characters. Edna, powerful, clever, driven, trusted by superheroes everywhere: how did she come to be in fashion? How does she develop the materials for the superhero suits? How and why did she get started in the business? Violet, young, brave, intelligent, growing to be wise: does she enjoy being a superhero, or see it as her duty? Do her friends know who she is? How is she training her powers? What future does she want for herself? Mirage, dangerous, understanding, having reversed her entire life by choosing to side with the Incredibles over Syndrome: What is she doing now? What drew her to Buddy in the first place? Does she have any powers at all, or is she completely normal, like Syndrome was? Where did the name ‘Mirage’ come from?
Basically, I just would love it if you explored what it means to be a female in a superheroic world – any female character would be awesome. Thanks!
Fandom: Mahou Shojo Madoka Magika
Optional Details: I’m not picky for the characters, but I’m absolutely fascinated by the idea of witches. While it’s believed that nothing of the magical girl remains, how true is that? Their labyrinth is a product of their sub-consciousness – how does that play into who they were as people and who they are as witches? I’d also love to see a sort of…fall out fic, exploring more of the epilogue. The entire reality of what it means to be a magical girl as well as a witch has been drastically altered, as demonstrated by the fact that Kyubey and Homura appear to be partners as in more “traditional” magical girl series. What is this new reality like? Are there still lingering effects of the old reality? If so, what are they? I hope something about this appeals to you! Enjoy!
Thank you again for taking the time to do this; I can't wait to see what you come up with!
